Hollaway Studio are delighted to announce that ‘Deer House’ has been granted Full Planning Consent by Ashford Borough Council under delegated powers.
Deer House is the first new house that Hollaway Studio have submitted using Paragraph 79 of the National Planning Policy, formerly PPS7 and Paragraph 55. Paragraph 79 is designed to permit exceptional pieces of architecture in the countryside that would not usually be permitted.
Situated in an ancient parkland within the High Weald AONB, the conceptual approach to ‘Deer House’ evolved from an in-depth historical analysis of the site which discovered a medieval deer leap running through the landscape. This finding gave rise to the concept of the new dwelling revealing this historical landform through its architecture.
The parkland folds up to envelop the house allowing the deer onto the roof whilst a haha wall allows the occupants to enjoy uninterrupted views of the parkland itself. The dwelling will enable the parkland to return to its former use as a deer farm, allowing the occupants and the deer to co-exist within this environment.
Hollaway Studio believe in an architecture that significantly enhances its immediate setting and this challenge of a Paragraph 79 brief has facilitated an innovative design approach with a design solution that reflects the highest standards in architecture. Reflecting the intent of Paragraph 79, the house will be one of the most efficient new houses in the UK with an exceptionally low carbon footprint.
